Gratitude can do so much to raise your happiness bar that I am reposting this.
Noting what you are grateful for is trending right now. Gratitude is one thing that will greatly improve your mental health. The experience of counting your blessings produces a little magic in the brain that increases happiness, gives you a greater sense of wellbeing, reduces physical pain, improves your ability to handle change, and leads to better sleep. With all that going for it, this journaling project might be worth the commitment.
Well if you are like me, this exercise got boring fast. I mean I am pretty much grateful for the same things everyday: My Husband, My Cat, My Career, and My Home. So for me to continue journaling and continuing to benefit I had to shake it up.
Here are some ideas: Make a list of what you are grateful for. This is still a great way to start and a good reminder of what you are grateful for everyday. Find the smallest things you were grateful for today. Like running water or coffee. Choose one thing you are grateful for today and write out why.
Choose one person you are grateful for and tell them in person, letter, text, or post.
What things about yourself are you grateful for?
Turn your gratitude into affirmations. “I am strong.” ” I am smart.”
Make a list of things to do that would bring you something to be grateful for. If you would be grateful for a new job – Revamp you resume, Put in applications, etc.
What small happening are you grateful for today or this week. My husband brought me a mocha at just the right time. A check came in the mail.
Is there something that didn’t happen you are grateful for?
What is awesome about your home? Work? Relationships?
List small pleasures that you are grateful for, like setting outside on a summer morning. Making a list of the accomplishments you have made & being grateful for that. Was a suggestion added last year to this list by reader Karen Horsley. Thanks for your in put and readership Karen.
I hope that you will develop your own gratitude journal because it really does improve your wellbeing. Try it daily for at least 21 days.
