Doing It Your Way

You need to be living your life your way.  To fit your personality, not someone else’s.  Trying to do it all the way others do or say you should only leads to feels of frustration and inadequacy.  Find your own way based on who you are.

Not a morning person?  Okay night owl! Take evening classes at college. Work the night shift. These are the hours you shine.  I personally like my mornings free to do what I want.  So I work from 12:00 to 7:30.

If you need rules, lists of things to do, structure then live by the rules. Structure your life your way.  Lots of counselors take Friday or Monday off, needing longer weekends to recover from our work week.  That is structuring it our way.

Don’t listen to others that say it is wrong to put others first.  If you truly wish to, if it is important to you personally then live your life that way.  Some people will never be comfortable putting themselves first.  If you need to put yourself first, Great!  Nothing wrong with taking care of you first.  I always say; I put my mask on first so I will be able to help you put yours on.  It is all in what you personally believe.

Have a 9 to 5 job. Or not. Or work for yourself.  Work day shift, evening shift, night shift.  Go to college.  Don’t go to college.  Get married and raise kids.  Get married and don’t raise kids. Stay single.  Travel.  Never leave your little corner of the world.  Write books.  Read books.  Eat what you want.  Be vegan.  Own a cat or dog or bird or have no pets.  Sing in the shower. Sing on a stage.

It is your life!  The ONE you get!  Live it the way that is right for you!

I think I understand what you mean. We all must find our way, our direction. However, I don’t think true happiness is found in utter selfishness or pure selflessness. Balance is critical to happiness and fulfillment, I think.

    • This is not about being selfish. This is about living your life in a way that makes it truly your life. It is about being honest with yourself about who you are and what you need, then adjusting your life so you can be successful. I can’t help you put your mask on if I don’t put mine on first, because I will be gasping for air. This is about your true balance.
