Create Ritual

Creating a ritual can help you to focus and bring more meaning to every day.  A ritual can be a small activity that you do before , after, or during another.  That little activity can help calm you and ground you before dealing with difficult situations or hassles.  It could bring more meaning to things like meditation and yoga. It can help you to shift gears between work and home; awake and sleep.  Find little activities that are personal and have meaning for you.

Here are a few ideas:

Spend a few minutes in silence with your hand held over your heart before leaving for work.  Add a prayer if that feels appropriate.

Eat your lunch in silence or outside or both.

Change your clothes when you come home for work to begin your home time.  You might wish to wash your face also.

Bow before doing yoga or exercising.

Wash your feet before meditating.

Write in your gratitude journal before bed.

Bathe, burn sage, light candles, listen to music, chant, sing, dance, read, sit in silence, take 5 sunshine breaths, do tai chi, hold one yoga posture, say affirmations, smile.
