Getting Ready for Work

As a mental health professional, I spend my days dealing with other peoples emotions and working to help them make the life changes they require.  I need to be in the right frame of mind to do my job.  That means taking time to prepare for my day.  Not just hair, clothes, and make up.  My morning always includes breakfast, exercise, and meditation. A good breakfast is on the list to give my body and mind fuel for the day.  Exercise to start burning stress before it begins.  Meditation to clear my mind of my own concerns that I can be there for my clients.

I said, ” I spend my days dealing with the emotions of others.”  I bet you too.  Most jobs involve working with people and there for emotions.  So I am suggesting here that you also find a morning routine that can help you – get ready for work. Get up earlier, even if that means going to bed earlier.  Then spend your morning preparing for the day ahead.  Do what ever is right for you, to start you out right each day.  Morning walks.  Morning talks over coffee.  Yoga, meditation, prayer?  Hitting the gym first thing?  Wake up showers?  Does there need to be music playing while you get dressed?

No matter what the job your mind needs to be in the right frame.  Taking time to prepare for your day means less stress for you and the people you deal with.  You will be happier and have more energy at the end of your day to enjoy things outside of work.  I know that in the beginning it will be hard to add on to your morning routine, but it will be worth it.  Start small.  Maybe breakfast.  Then add on other things you might enjoy.
