My Shades Are Open

My shades and curtains are wide open and I suggest you open yours too.  It is a cold, snowy, grey day out there.  It seems void of light.  The truth is there is a little sunlight to be soaked up on even the greyest of days.  So I suggest opening the shades.  Going outside for even a small amount of time.  I know you are thinking it is grey and cold outside — WHY?

To increase your serotonin levels.  Serotonin is a powerful brain neurotransmitter that helps regulate appetite, memory, and mood.  The lack of sunshine this time of year sends many of us into anxiety and/or depression.  You can decrease the symptoms just by increasing your exposure to light.  So I suggest:

  • Opening the shades.
  • Stepping outside for a few minutes.
  • Taking a little walk outdoors.
  • Doing your paperwork or hobbies by the window even on a cloudy day.
  • Setting a gazing out a window.  Like Pumpkin is doing in this picture.
